This unique and thoughtful drop top guest book is an alternative, exciting and warm way to involve guests at any event. It’s also a great way to record and remember the special day for a lifetime. Guests will enjoy signing and dropping the hearts through the slit at the top, and the owner will enjoy cherishing this drop box guest book for a lifetime as it hangs on the wall.
It’s great for weddings, birthdays, baby showers, fundraisers, or any event to be documented and has sentimental value.
The item pictured is 11″x 14″ with a 1.25″ inch frame. EACH FRAME CAN HOLD A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF HEARTS. There are 3 different sizes of hearts, and you should choose yours depending on what your are going for. There are 1.5″ hearts, 1.75″ hearts and 2″ hearts. Just that quarter of an inch difference changes the amount which can be written on the hearts dramatically (see picture). The larger size of hearts, the less the frame will be able to hold of that size. The center heart standard size is 3″, but this may grow slightly with the much larger frames to keep the “look.”
In my opinion…(refer to picture to see example hearts sizes with text):
- The 1.5″ hearts are a good size for just a name or two, but not much more. Maybe a name with a smiley or a one or two word blurb, or a very small drawing.
- The 1.75″ hearts hold more text. A great size for multiple names (often the choice of signing by couples). Also a name with a longer blurb and/or small drawing.
- The 2″ hearts have quite a bit of room and are great for allowing guests to leave a message.
Keep in mind, typically not all guests will sign the guest book, and couples tend to sign one piece as a pair. It’s nearly impossible to know for sure how many guests will sign, but I’ve found it’s usually in the range of 50-75%, but this isn’t always the case. If you plan to have 150 guests at your wedding, unless you make a point that each guest should sign a piece individually, I’d expect less than 150 signed pieces. I’d suggest 1.75″ or 2″ hearts with a frame which will hold 100-125 pieces. For something like a kid’s birthday, I suggest getting the smaller or medium sized hearts (1.5″ or 1.75″) and close to around exactly how many guests you plan to have. Each kid will want to sign his own. Again, these are just suggestions.
The frame sizes, and approximate amount of each heart size that frame will hold are as follows:
|Frame Size||1.5″ Hearts||1.75″ Hearts||2″ Hearts|
|8″ x 10″||~40||~30||~20|
|11″ x 14″||~75||~65||~40|
|14″ x 16″||~120||~100||~70|
|16″ x 20″||~170||~140||~100|
|18″ x 24″||~225||~185||~130|
*** I also can make a 24×36 frame, it’s large and holds many more hearts. Great for big events. Please contact me if you’re interested in this size. ***
***Make sure you include the following.***
**The size of hearts you want. If you do not include this, you will get 1.75″ hearts. The approximate number of hearts each size frame holds is pretty accurate, however the hearts can rest atop each other in ways which leave more or less gaps or “dead space.” So you may receive a few more or less hearts. If it is important you get at least the amount noted, just put this in your notes and I will be sure you receive at least that number **
**Exactly what you want engraved. In the case of the main item pictured this would be “Amy & Justin October 28th, 2017” You may also choose something like “Mr. & Mrs. Avery 7-10-16” (I typically do this style in 3 lines of text as it looks and fits best) or “Jenny’s Bridal Shower August 5th 2016” Whatever you choose, I can engrave it and I will design it to look as best as possible. Anything in parenthesis will be considered an icon or symbol, for instance if you want a heart engraved between two names, you’d write “Jen (heart) Elliot” **
**The font you prefer. There are 8 separate fonts you can choose from which correspond to a letter and are seen in one of the images. Just check mark the box for which font you want. If you don’t clarify any font, I will choose them myself. If you have your own font in mind which you want to use, just let me know the name of it and email it to me if possible. Google fonts also has a large selection and they are free and I am willing to use any of those if you like them (fonts.google.com). **
***The background color will be brown (hardboard) unless you choose a colored background and put this in the notes. There is currently no extra charge for a colored background. There are 10 different colored background choices you can choose from, lettered A-J. These are standard colors. You may prefer a different color which is not listed, such as gold, plum, or coral. I am more than happy to paint any color you prefer, I just ask in return you leave me some good feedback if you love it, and I’m sure you will.
It really also really helps my small business when you share my items on my facebook page or my twitter account, and it is greatly appreciated. So please, SHARE IT! 🙂 You can also find coupons on my facebook page, so I suggest liking it. 🙂
The center engraved heart on the 11″ x 14″, 14″ x 16″ and 16″x 20″ is approximately 3 inches tall and wide. It is a bit smaller on the 8″ x 10″ frame to keep the overall “look” of the guest book.
The interior pieces are made of quality 1/4 inch thick maple ply wood. The front cover is glass. The heart piece with the names on it has been finished with a dark brown finish.
The pieces are easily written on. I’ve found nearly any pen works for writing on them. I suggest just a regular bic pen. I used to suggest fine tip markers, but a couple customers in the past have said they’ve gotten some slight bleeding with them, although I’ve never experienced it myself. Test different pens out and find out which will work best for you; I include a small blank piece of wood for you to do so.
Also if you want the signed pieces or the engraved piece to be a different shape (ie. circles, stars, rounded corner rectangles, etc.) just let me in your notes and I can accommodate. I’ve made many different shapes in the past, with great outcomes. One couple custom ordered a bicycle to be the center piece with their names on it, and the pieces for their guests to sign were tires. It came out great and they absolutely loved it.
I also make a tree drop box guest book. It has a tree trunk as the custom engraved piece and maple leaves which the guests sign. Don’t be afraid to ask for a different style or shape for the leaves. People do it all the time and I am here to accommodate. 🙂
*I will include the instruction sign for no charge (the pictured item says leaves but yours will say hearts) if you photograph and share the this guest book (preferably in use at your event) on facebook. You’ll need to tag my facebook page in the post, http://www.facebook.com/havolydesigns Selecting “Yes, I’ll Share You” is you making an agreement you will do this. You must first like the facebook page and let me know in the notes section what name you liked the page with (if it’s different from the name you ordered on here with). You then have up to two months after your wedding date to post and tag the picture. I really appreciate you helping my small business and your honesty. 🙂

Below is a video showing how I make these step by step. However, I do a few things differently since filming this video. I do not use epoxy at all. I secure the glass to the frame with silicone and steel push points. I also secure the backing with small nails.
